Art History: BVA 312 - 12/02/2019
Favorite among artists during the
17th Century - 20th Century.
After two years of studying Art History, I have a brief overall of how art has developed over the time all around the world. On the first day of my third year in Visual Arts-Art history, we were assigned to share our favorite during the 17th-20th centuries in the art world.
Question:
- What is my favorite era?
- Who is my favorite artist?
- What would I like to learn?
- How does this relate to my art practices?
My knowledge of Art only started when I first enrolled in the Bachelor of Visual Arts, my choices will be around Western art.
The nearest art style that is fairly similar to how the Chinese painted their art, fluently using ink, is the Impressionism art Movement.
- Impressionism was a French 19th Century art movement which breaks free the tradition in European Painting. The most admirable part of this style is how they capture lights and using bold colors to help emphasized on the focused subject or item.

2. The artist that I am into is John Singer Sargent. He was an American Impressionist capturing people's personalities, aspirations, inclinations, and distinct characteristics.
One example of his work, The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit (1882)
3. Sargent used vibrant Impressionistic brushstrokes and untraditional compositional solutions in order to capture his sitters' character and even reputation. I would like to incorporate this method into my work, by capturing the characteristic of my object/ subject into my work.
4. I wanted a clear indication of what my artwork is about. My work will be easily presented to my audience if these important aspects of Sargent are able to present my practice too!
