Allegories: is used to symbolize a deeper moral or spiritual meaning such as life, death, love, virtue etc... *meaning on the meaning on meaning

The symbolic figure, treasures, fruits, animals, depicting the world is safe. 
peace for the children, do not want war to happen ever again. England and Spain to be peaceful, but failed.

Married to a beautiful woman, Helena foments, the young wife he painted her over and over again. FAT was a fashion, silky white skin. Painted her as herself, not depicting any god or spiritual figure. 

Episode 6

Netherlands 

the dutch shows daily life. portrays light in space, of the peasants.
Vermeer living in Delft. Always painting in silent although the environment was busy and noisy.

Only to look at his work.
He gives the audience more freedom in telling the story before the painting, more likely a mystery to the picture.

The woman in blue reading a letter

The woman could be reading a letter from her husband, far from home. Or a letter from her mother, missing her daughter. You will never know, it is more of a mystery.

Light is the only actor, pureness of white shining on the subject. 
Rembrandt(Miller's son)

Philip the fourth, genuinely love of art.
Velazquez painted mainly portraits, blended with a mythological character.
There's an article on this painting, saying its the first ever Photobomb. Always find a way to include himself in any of his paintings.

Las Meninas and the Hapsburg depicts the little princess, her maids, the King and Queen, everyone. He painted everyone on scene. The child is not in the center, but the reflection of the King and Queen is. He was depicted in the picture. During that era, only a nobleman is able to be in the painting. 
He captures time as an essence, it is in eternity, what has happened will always stay there.
His love for painting gives life to his image along with his emotion. Velazquez was given the red cross award before he dies. 

Fun facts why the rich will always be rich is because they kept pairing up and marrying the family


The Spinners

Another great work by Valezquez was the Spinner, merging Greek mythology with commoners. As if he wanted to convince his audience that one is equal to god. Notice there is only one people looking towards us while everyone is working on their own business. He wanted his audience to fully engage with him in the picture. 

French Golden Age, Rome 

Rome is in love with the classical world


Nicolas Poussin
Young woman symbolized painting. He was the most poetic artist.

Showing kindness. Facial expression is still important. The background symbolized the distance Rebecca was traveling for a royal marriage.
