The "Cinderella" story.

Question: How by uncovering my cultural identity through drawings reflects cultural acceptance in nowadays diversified society?

There are hundreds of version of Cinderella. Going back to history, the first Cinderella was 2.000 years back. The first iteration of the story can be traced to Greece, during the sixth century B.C. In the Greek version of the tale, a courtesan named Rhodopis has her shoe carried away by an eagle. Another oldest dated is written in China called Yeh Xian. This story was written before the Qin and Han dynasty (206 BC)There is a very similar cast of characters to the Cinderella myth we recognize today, including an evil stepmother and unkind step-sister. In place of a fairy godmother, Ye Xian has the magical bones of a fish, which grants her wishes.

How does the story of Cinderella relate to my project questioning?

Malaysia is a very diversified country, with different races living together. I was not alert with the diversity until coming to New Zealand. Coming to this new society makes me realized the importance of acceptance in society. Because where ever you go, there will be a problem of racism or understanding between culture.

By combining Cinderella from three different countries, I am sure that my message of acceptance in diversity will be understood to my audience.

Cinderella:
1. China: Yeh Shen
2. Malaysia: Bawang Putih Bawang Merah
3. Europen (French): Cendrillon
