Your proposal should clearly outline your area of interest, giving 3 local and 4 national case studies of businesses/organisations, which operate, within this field.
All students must identify at least three industry opportunities within the southland area and a further four opportunities on a national level. This is to help you not only identify opportunities locally but to get an understanding of the creative industry within New Zealand so your internship hours best compliment your overall career plans.
For each company you should give synopsis of the company/organisation. Including links to their website and/or major works. Included contact details and the address of the company.
3 local organisations :
1. Dunedin Art Gallery
The Gallery houses a significant collection of New Zealand artworks covering the period from 1860 to the present. The collection also contains major holdings of historical European art, Japanese prints and the decorative arts. Historical works by renowned artists such as Turner, Gainsborough, Claude, and Machiavelli feature alongside the only Monet in a New Zealand collection and master works by Derain, Tissot, Burne-Jones and internationally acclaimed Dunedin artist Frances Hodgkins.
The collection is fundamental to the Gallery’s exhibition programme, but many works of art are also sourced from other public and private collections in New Zealand and internationally.
The Gallery presents a wide-ranging events programme of interesting lectures, floor talks, film and video screenings, performances and workshops. There are regular guided tours for key exhibitions or by arrangement.

2. ILT (Invercargill lisensing trust) Art's Awards
Taking Flight: McIntyre Dick & Partners Art Awards and exhibition represents the emergence of a new way of working. The exhibitions once associated with the Southland Art Society will no longer be tied to one particular venue but will occupy space around the city and region continuing to deliver an annual programme of exhibitions, workshops and events. Taking Flight, therefore, is both a celebration of the art of Southland and the numerous partnerships that promote the identity and support the vibrancy that the creative industries bring to our region. Works that reflect on and question what it means to be a Southlander in any media are eligible for entry. The Awards are being coordinated by the DIY Museum. The DIY Museum project is based around the concept of performing the actions of the public museum within a community. In practical terms this involves working in the capacity of a facilitator to realise creative projects/activities around Invercargill/Southland.
DIY Musuem
There are creative practitioners in the Invercargill/Southland region who have had limited opportunities to share their practices with others. Many are also on the outside of the decision-making processes associated with arts/cultural development in the region. The DIY Museum's ethos is to perform a responsive museum model that connects with the aspirations of community members to present an annual public programme of events/activities. The DIY Museum also aims to reach parts of the community that may not consider the institutional model that is the traditional public museum/gallery as accessible. Audience will be approached from the perspective of creating a scene that engages publics with projects over a period of time providing greater opportunities to connect throughout the creative process rather than simply engaging with the finished art product. Initially being inspired by the concept of the "museum without walls", the DIY Museum attempts to work in the gaps - or in those areas not being addressed in the context of museum practice in the region. The DIY Museum is a responsive approach to museum practice that positions the city/region as site and therefore makes use of existing infrastructure to present projects/activities.

1. Henry Butcher Actioneer
Malaysian art industry is on the rise, with increasing level of interest in art and a growing awareness of art as an asset class. Nevertheless, art collecting still seems to be confined to a select group, while buying and selling is primarily done through dealers, galleries and the private base. Transactions of Malaysian art in public auction are far and few in between, even by established international auction houses. The absence of a strong and transparent secondary market has in a way limited the growth of art collecting in Malaysia as well as institutional acquisition and investment in Malaysian art.
Henry Butcher Malaysia, having had decades of asset auctioning experience, from real estate to plant & machinery, aspires to help rectify this situation by providing an additional avenue of sale and purchase of art pieces for galleries, collectors and investors. Thus the birth of Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers in 2009.

2. Oriental art and cultural centre
is dedicated to the idea of enriching a people’s lives through art.
The center was founded as a non-profit art space in 2010 under the auspices of Elken Foundation who is committed to encourage the understanding of Malaysian arts and culture.
As a community platform that could provide a space for artistic dialogues and open discussions, we aim to initiate and promote all forms of art-related programmes and to exhibit outstanding art pieces by artists of all disciplines. Up and coming, local young artists are always our first priority when it comes to the curation and selection process.
Other than nurturing the progression of these young artists, OACC hopes to further their artistic development by providing multiple perspectives and exposure within the multicultural context of Malaysian society and subsequently to spark new artistic creations.
The importance of education is vital in providing a strong foundation in order to nurture and enrich the growth of the Malaysian arts and culture scene. Thus, OACC has initiated the Community Outreach Programme, “Seed Project”, to provide art education to kids in rural areas. This project was launched in 2013 and has made its way to 10 primary schools, from Malaysia to Thailand and China. The programme has drawn attention from the larger society and has successfully attracted many volunteers to extend their helping hands.
OACC occupies a 3-storey building with an approximate area of 15 000 sq ft. There is a management office, art galleries, art spaces and a few classrooms. With the hosting of various artistic and cultural events, OACC aims to become the nucleus for cross-cultural dialogues.
