Sun Xun, Chinese artist. represent chinese history and history from all around the world through his art. Rising question for his viewer, very powerful art. For him, the piece of work is not art, the film is not art, art is about a deeper spirit.
Example, a work thats hes working for was going to present in Korea. There he combines history of korean by painting cultural background of korea into his work.
Although he uses chinese traditinal ink as his medium, but also collaborating with advance technology in aiding his work with techonology. He is very interested in film, animation. However he was poor, an idea suddendly struck his head, thats to create a hand drawn animation.
His work explore question on chinese history. Chinese cultural revolution, forms the foundational of his art. Frommyoung he was expose to two different history of china. One is from the written history book from the government and other is from his family.
Combining Chinese history with art. The first animation was called "Shock of Time - 2006". What was interesting about this work is not only the lovely drawings that he has painted, it was the paper that inspired me. He used old communist newspaper from the 50s, 60s. Newspaper became is script.
He is included into the Global art industry and Art market.
The time Viravium, was inspired when he saw how the western world presented their history in the museum.
* He was very interested in culture. different culture even people. All people, all culture, we have prejudices and we always refuse some parts of the truth that we dont want, he is very interested into that part. therefore, the time viravium talks about that.
At the Singaporean print institute " Republic of Jing Bang" was exhibited to picture the goverment in Singapore. It illustrated of a fake country, a country behind the whale's back. The Whale as the symbol of Singapore, as a parody of the National symbol on the Merlion. What is the truth, is the leadin person really the truth. For Sun xun, travelling is very important, his art is the way to develop the world's view. Artist work for future, art becomes a pat of culture. Sun Xun doesnt identify himself as a chinese artist, he wanted to represant as himself.
Painting = nature power.
He is like a tool, performing art on paper.

Sun Xun: The time Vivarium
The concept grew out of Sun Xun’s preoccupation with global history, culture and politics. He is especially interested in the way historical events are perceived and remembered by ordinary citizens versus how they are officially presented by public agencies and the media. Sun Xun’s work addresses these ideas in a symbolic and surrealist way, often choosing to use animals and insects as the main characters of the story instead of people.
What to reflect from Sun Xun.
His work kindda reflects to my work, I wanted my work to be universal too, like his. He also interested in culture too. He highlights that he's not a typical chinese artist, he's a arist thats belong to the world.
I like that statement.
From his work, the use of matrial is one of the element that builts his work. Specifies in paper.
- His mixture of modern and traditional medium is able to reflect to my work on combining three different culture of cinderella: Malay, Chinese, European.
- The topic is about culture, how he wanted to indentify himself as a universal artist rather than a artist from a country.
