Dunedin Trip [08/05/2019]
First Activity: Street ArtWalking down the street of Dunedin shows many artworks done by artist all around the world all thanks to the attribution of Dunedin Street Art (DSA) group. DSA is a group of volunteers working hard to bring commissioned art to the street of Dunedin.
Funding for street art installations comes from donations, crowd-sourcing, fundraising, sponsorship, and grants.
The majority of street arts are located along the princes street area. (no. 3 - 23)
There is two favorite artist from the street art trail, Phlegm & Pixel Pancho.
Here are some pictures of street art.

Second Activity: Dunedin Public Art Gallery
Yang Yong Liang - Artificial Wonderland
Trained from a young age in shui-mo hua, traditional Chinese ink painting, Yang Yongliang (b.1980) uses digital technologies to explore the intersection between this art form and the contemporary world. Graduating from China Academy of Fine Art, Shanghai, in 2003, Yang began working in painting, photography, video and installation, more recently expanding his practice to encompass virtual reality. Across these platforms, Yang’s work creates a space to examine urbanization, globalization and the contemporary relationship to the landscape.
Youtube on, Yang Yong Liang: Artificial Wonderland.
What is so special and unique about his work is the visual aspect of art and the audio too. He uses an element that represents the construction of a building in his work. What do I mean by that? The music was composed by his friend uses the sound of a machine or the progress of constructing a building.
Relevant to my final project
In the other art exhibition shows a section of art from all around the world includes Japan. This section shows a work "The fifty-three stations of the Tekaido roa, Hoeido edition."
This book might be relevant to my final year project.
Third Activity: Otago Museum
It is an amazing discovery of New Zealand culture found in the Museum. Our tour guide gave us a quick explanation in each section of the museum more into the culture of New Zealand. Maori plays a major identity for New Zealand. What I found interesting is that the traditional culture of Maori is very similar to the aboriginal people in south-east Asia, the tattoo, infrastructure, clothing etc. Another thing that puts my interest in is the climax at those times, was New Zealand a tropical country before? 🤔
Question: Was New Zealand s tropical country before? Does Maori Culture associate with Southeast Asia culture?
