Webbs is a well-known NZ Auction House, specialising in Modern and Contemporary art, Decorative Arts, Jewellery and Fine and Rare Wines.
Our organisation is embarking on a new and exciting journey right now and to this end, we have a rare opportunity for an experienced arts-professional to join our team in the capacity of Art Department Manager.
Liaising with other key stakeholders in the business, you will have proven Leadership capabilities, excellent attention to detail and communication skills. 
In this role you will be required to be the face of our Art department maintaining and building relationships with clients, industry affiliates, consultants, collectors and external parties while overseeing and managing Auctions.
In order to be considered for this role:
  • You must have a minimum of 4 years’ industry experience, preferably in a leadership role
  • Relevant Industry Tertiary qualifications
  • A working knowledge of modern and contemporary New Zealand art.
  • Experience working in a client-facing capacity
  • Exceptional time-management skills (well-organised) 
  • Able to maintain efficiency in high-pressure situations
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A high standard of computer literacy
  • Established relationships with art collectors, dealer galleries, consultants and curators would be a distinct advantage

NMG (Nadene Milne Gallery) is one of the senior contemporary art galleries in New Zealand, operating in the South Island, out of Arrowtown and Christchurch. We represent many of New Zealand's most important artists and place works in significant public, domestic and international collections. We have two positions available in our brand new Christchurch gallery, which will be opening in June and is a mere block away from the Christchurch Art Gallery. We are currently developing an ambitious curatorial program for the gallery. It’s an exciting time to be coming on board - there are great opportunities for personal and professional development. 

Role
  • Day to day management of the Christchurch gallery (with directorial oversight)
  • Communicating with artists and clients
  • Managing exhibitions
  • Selling/placing works
  • Overseeing marketing
  • Working creatively within a budget

We don’t necessarily expect you to arrive with a complete set of skills - there is ample opportunity for learning on the job provided you have fundamentals and are keen to learn. The director and associate director have decades of experience and are willing to share their knowledge. This role can be high pressure - we uphold high standards and work often within tight deadlines. 
Candidates should be somewhat flexible as they may have to travel for work on occasion.
