First session: One-on-One with Traci
Half of 2019 has passed, and my thoughts and idea is slowly coming into one. The struggle of coming up with a topic in this theory class is real, I kept going back to the idea of cultural identity and fairy tales, which i personality thinks that it keeps going into circle,
While talking with Traci, she helps me to built what I am thinking of in my mind. I showed her a work by Alex Konahin.
How Alex Konahin creates his work?
-uses detailed Renaissance floral patterns in a new way to create incredibly beautiful and intricate pieces of art.
-distinctive style of drawing involves much use of floral patterns, cultural symbols and traditional ornamentation. The objects he draws most often are insects, wild animals, human anatomy and intense visual abstractions.
"The monochromatic symmetrical designs exhibit a diligent attention to detail in their floral and abstract embellishments. There is even a three-dimensional feel to the works, making them appear as though they are popping out at the viewer." (Pinar, 2012)
My own thoughts and comments.
After viewing his work, i figure my work should concentrate in a specific element, an element that strongly identify the story of cinderella.
** In this paper, will look into the definition of symbolism and the element that able to reflect on mt illustration. I can use a symbol that represent a meaning of a work like "Love" in three different culture then create a pattern from that. in my final work i wanted to present in the SIT Library that shows a combination og three culture along with my QR code. My QR code then will link the audience to the Raw Gallery that shows the progress of my work in video form (timelapse), illustration of three different culture with symbols, in the end will present a final work that representation the three works (Combination)

- Cultural symbols that represent a specific meaning. (Culture: Malay, Chinese, European)
