Studio/ Research: BVA 316/ BVA 303 - 07/10/2019 (Looking for Paper)
Hunting for paper.
The material also plays an important in my project. Through many artist's statements, many do actually put into the account on their material, as different material/quality product different kind of work. Other than that, material helps to give additional context towards an artwork.
In my work, I planned to discover more about the paper.
Kathryn actually suggested experimenting with different types of paper and ink. But at that time, I wasn't really interested and also did not get the whole point of doing it all. Because I like doing art and it doesn't need to have any other consideration other than doing what I like.
BUT I WAS WRONG.
So now, finally, going to search for some paper.
Another reason for me now searching for the paper earlier this year is due to the inconvenience of the search. Kathryn recommended me using traditional paper on my work. Like traditional paper made from Malaysia or China. gives more context from its originality. Hmmm, maybe this is what differentiates high art and low art? Quality does matter.
After thinking for a while, my work doesn't really include many elements from New Zealand (Since I wanted to achieve my topic specifically on diversity). So paper will be the one!
FLAX PAPER.
The Internet is really a great tool to look for information. There are a few websites selling Flax paper, I have contacted some of them through facebook and email.

SO flax is a plant that contains strong fibre in itself. There's an article on Flax Paper that focused on Pakohe Quality Papers studio. Its a traditional way of making paper in the olden days. You can do it yourself or buy it online.
I definitely need to try next time.
